Sync 3 version 1.0 upgrade help

What’s the easiest way to upgrade my 2016 XLT Sport (non nav)?

I did search but lots of conflicting info....

The easiest way is to go to the ford owner site and download the update to a USB thumb drive. Then follow the directions to run the update in the truck. If you want to use CarPlay you will also need to change out the USB media hub in the truck to the newer CarPlay comparable hub.

So I need to change the usb “double hub” in order for it to work?

that must be the issue

Sync version 1 and 2 did not support Car Play. Version 3 and up does. The USB hub needs to be replaced to support it as well. Yesterday there was a post about Car Play and someone posted the part numbers for the hubs. They are easy to replace.
