Sync 3 updates?
Does anyone know what the sync the updates are or do?
I have a 2020 F150 and have been doing the updates over WiFi which is taking forever. Tried the USB method but kept getting errors saying it would not recognize USB drive. Wondering now if these updates are even important or just fluff, tracking, etc.?

They mostly fix issues in the operating system. 3.4 updated the aesthetics a bit and automated the DST time change. WiFi updates take a long time to download and install, but so what? It's fully automated and you don't have to lift a finger. Let them do their thing. Your USB drives may be formated incorrectly - you need to follow the download and installation directions to the letter, and leave the drive in the port a long time through a couple reboots until a persistent "installation is complete" message stays on the screen to achieve a successful manual update.
Ford may be done with 3.0 and 3.4 updates. There hasn't been one in a while, and few complaints from those running the current version. There probably won't be any more aesthetic changes or added functionality. My Sync runs well with no problems, so I've turned off automatic updates and will evaluate whether I want to install any future updates if/when they come out.

They start usually work 4U5T and end in 4000, 9000, 2000, 1000, 00000. .TAR.GZ
As far as the USB, I did follow to the letter the instructions. Reformatted the drive as the ex32 instead of fat32, as instructed. Even tried changing from a 64GB drive because the directions specifically said 16 or 32 and never mentioned any other size. So I thought as a long shot, try again with the 32GB. No luck.
The only thing I thought may cause the issue is I had started the downloads by Wi-Fi and maybe since I had some downloaded it blocked the new download file? I wasn't going to reset my vehicle sync system in case it didn't work. I didn't want to have to download even more files.
Keep in mind that your truck's WiFi is not active 24/7... it shuts down 30 minutes after you turn the truck off, to keep from draining the battery. If there are places away from home where you tend to frequently visit or spend a lot of time parked, check in your WiFi menu to see if there's a public WiFi hotspot there to which you can connect. Connect to it, and after that your truck will automatically connect when you're in range. That will increase your download opportunities.
I use Cyanlabs updater to make a usb. Its not very user friendly but it is very effective.
