So my truck is a 19 and my original warranty just ran out at the end of December. I just went into the ford site to my vehicle dashboard and saw there was a new SYNC update so I downloaded that. and while I had previously downloaded the maps I figured I'd go in and see if there was an update there as well. Previously It would tell me if one was available or not. Now it's prompting me to buy a download subscription. I'm assuming that there was a free subscription while the warranty was active and that has run out. The subscription is for 5 years, one download per year. Not that I use Nav much but I like to keep it updated. And yes, I know I can always use Carplay and Waze or something. Is there some other option that allows updates without a subscription, or are they all based on your vin number? The previous updates required a license file, so I'm assuming they may have them locked down.

You will be, the next time you check the Nav update web page. I was updated to 22 for free, now the site says I need to pay for future updates. That's fine, the updates are a service, I get it. I want to keep it current but may skip a year or two, and probably won't notice the difference.
