Sync 2.2 Bluetooth problems
I upgraded to Sync 2.2 on my '16 F150 in December when it came out. I enjoy Android Auto but it's a little laggy getting started sometimes. But on Friday, bluetooth started to have problems. It would play a few seconds of a song, cut out, skip a bit and then pick back up.
I have used an S7 edge with both versions 6 and 7 of the OS - so I don't think it's the phone since multiple devices have problems with multiple versions of the OS. The problem surfaces no matter what I'm streaming or whether I use the cable, bluetooth by itself or the app associated to it (ie: Pandora or Spotify). I tried to just delete the device to re-pair it but I couldn't delete it.
Today, the radio is sketchy altogether. ie: the map didn't load on a trip at all. Later, tinkering with the maps that finally loaded, it would take about 7 seconds to switch from Audio to Climate to Maps, etc.
At last, I pulled the battery for a few mins and performed a hard reset. To my surprise, most of the settings remained. I did finally get to re-pair the phone though - but after re-pairing it from scratch (I deleted the settings from my phone too) - the problem is still occurring.
Any thoughts? Yes, I'm going to call the dealer but I'm a "right now" kinda guy and since I'm techy in nature, it's driving me crazy that I can't just figure it out on my own. It worked so well for so long without an ounce of an issue.

I suspect the phone if it is struggling with bluetooth streaming, without the cable plugged in Android Auto is not running at all. Try it in any other car or even buy a cheap bluetooth speaker and see if it cuts out. As for the map loading that sounds like a different issue.
Yes, Sync 3, ver 2.2
I think I figured it out. Google informed me that perhaps it was having trouble downloading my contacts. I disabled the "automatically download contacts" trigger within Sync and it seems to be working normally again.
...not sure if I happened to cross a threshold with the number of contacts it was syncing, or maybe if there's some content it doesn't like, but I'm happy its streaming normally again.
EDIT - Not fixed. Its scheduled next week for maintenance.
