We go into the Seattle to often to have the 6.5. All the darn parking stalls are made for "Compact" or what should be compact. Heck, half the parking garages do not allow for factor height of the F150. That extra foot would significantly reduce what is left over for us to park in.

Either would fit in our garage.

That said. We are pleased with the 5.5 overall for many reasons. One is drivability (Shorter wheelbase). Another is because we also have a 10x6 aluminum trailer that we use for any "True" truck bed needs. It is lower to the ground and easier to get appliances or yard materials or even the latest hardware store supply of materials in and out of.

So in reality. Not everyones needs or capacities are the same.

I'm not suggesting to the OP which is better simply buy what you want. These vehicles cost to much to make compromises if you really want a particular feature. In my situation I'm way out in the country so parking, etc means almost nothing.

If you really want a 6'5" bed length it's best to buy one IMO....

Many people who drive f150's could get by with a trunk. I use the bed once in a while but I have four different types of trailers I use to haul most stuff. One of the reasons I stayed away from the 250's were their length. The short bed f150 is plenty long and the bed is very usable for lumber with the tailgate down. I haul up to 12-foot boards no problem. I think it's stupid for people to put large UTV's in their beds.

I personally think the 5.5 looks odd. I needed the utility of a 6.5 anyways.

I would have prefered the shorter wheelbase of the 5.5 though.

Winner, winner chicken dinner. If you use the truck as a truck then the 6.5' bed is a must.

Yup, 5.5 is too short if you are really using the F150 as a truck. End of story. If you use it as a glorified SUV then fine 5.5 will probably work.

For a daily driver? 5.5'. For a second vehicle? 6.5'.

I agree here. The SCREW with the 6.5 is ungainly to park in the city and it won't fit in most of the parking spaces I need to fit into. The 5.5 almost hangs out as it is. I use a trailer if I need to haul anything of consequence and I work out of the bed with a flat tonneau every day. I drove a sedan before and the 5.5 bed with tonneau is cavernous by comparison.

5.5' is too short for me. That's why I got the bed extender! Almost the best of both worlds - maneuverability of a shorter wheelbase with the ability to haul dirtbikes or a quad with the gate down with the extender out. The other benefit is off-road. Longer wheelbase can be an issue.
Sometimes I wish I could try a 6.5' bed for a month to see if it would bug me too much, but unfortunately that isn't going to happen.

I like the 5.5' bed with the bed extender, bed divider, hard cover, spray in liner. I wish we could get a regular F150 scab with 5.5' bed.
