Suggestions on when to Order?
I would like to order a 2017 at some point. I am in no rush, though I am curious when is the best time to order and lock in incentives? I browsed the "what did you pay under invoice" thread and it seemed like some people were able to get $2800 cash back in summer. Some people were able to get an additional random $750-1000 private offer. I know dealers have much less wiggle room than Ford Corp as they F-150s is a high profit margin item for Ford.
I also know they don't like to get out Incentives for Lariats and higher trims all that much, but I want a 4x4 Screw Lariat w/ a 3.5EB.
I got prices on two different Lariat builds from a local dealer that said $100 under invoice for either build. I haven't pushed on the dealer on hold back, etc. as the current incentives aren't all that great, so I am not ready to bite at this time.
One of the builds I am looking at is a HDPP and I know they didn't do any in 2015, and some people had to wait a while to get their 2016s. I know they build trucks in sets, I don't know if the HDPP are built separate than a normal screw, but I would hate to find out the had way they won't build any more HDPP for the year, if I wait till the last minute. Other than that I am in no rush and would like to wait for the best incentives.
Lastly I hear end of quarter is a good time to buy, though I don't know if that really applies to orders. Does it meet their quota when you order something or is it only on delivery?

I suggest you do some more reading, these types of questions are covered repeatedly.
Incentives vary based on supply, region, and whether Ford is hitting targets. The best incentives are on XLTs, not Lariats, and never will be. And you'll never see a HDPP-related incentive, and are very unlikely to ever find one on a lot.
Sign up for private offers NOW. They come sporadically, you cannot time them, so get in the database and they will start showing up at various points during the year. But, you may find that when it comes it gives you 3 or 4 or 5 weeks, and the on order truck is 7 weeks out, and you're SOL.
HDPPs were never made in the new design in 2015. They started making them in 2016 as you noted, and there is no reason to think they will stop at any point vs. regular models, but that's not a certainty.
So, now to time of year. Given that incentives vary by supply, you MAY find better incentives as vehicles sit on a lot towards the end of a model year. BUT - if you're ordering, you would need to get that order in with the incentives locked in by the dealer at time of order (giving you the option to take the incentives at time of delivery) before they stop making the 2017s in August. That means you can't take advantage of any "end of model year" incentives in November and onward, since your vehicle will likely already be delivered.
$100 under invoice, plus incentives, for an ordered HDPP, is a good deal. With the possibility of private cash, and any incentives at time of order or time of delivery, that's as good as you will get on a vehicle that is virtually never ordered to sit on a dealer's lot, and they know that. You might get some of the holdback given they will bring it in and you take it right away, worth a try.
Quota is satisfied by SOLD vehicles, i.e. delivered, so no, on order doesn't help the dealer.
Hope this helps.

I could wait till next year to buy a left over 16 with what I want, though if it isn't that much difference in price, I might just go with a HDPP.
With the private offer, I though it was limited and you only have a chance to get it once if you ordered the brochure. I might not order till the Summer.
Thanks for the input

Yeah, I have been looking at lots of pages of forums and many google site searches for this. Trying to figure when there is generally more regular offers on ordered vehicles. I know XLT get a lot more as people who want to spend money on a Lariat+ are dumb enough to pay the high dollar.
