Default Stereo Upgrade !!

Hey guys - loving my new F150 Raptor, but was VERY disappointed with the "premium" Sony audio system. Really lame. It's a shame that Ford doesn't offer a kick-*** audio system option in the higher end F150's (I know, I know - this is an off-road truck - but who doesn't want to blast some ACDC while screaming across the Baja ?!!)

So... I decided to do something about it. My Raptor underwent a major audio transformation last week.

Many thanks to Matt at Luxury Details in MA for an outstanding professional install. Very clean install - can’t even tell anything was done to the interior.

I was able to keep all the functionality of the stock head unit and the best part is that all the components were installed behind the rear seats with no encroachment on my limited Scab floor space !!

Components:
  • Audio Control DM810 – necessary to allow communication between stock head unit/amp with new amp and speakers.
  • JL Audio HD900/5 Amp – 900 watts with 500 going to subwoofers.
  • 2 Pioneer TS-SW2002D4 Subwoofers – installed in custom enclosure
  • Focal Es165K Front Speakers – includes separate tweeters mounted in front pillars
  • Focal 165AC Rear Speakers
  • Remote volume control for subwoofers mounted on steering column
  • Dynamat soundproofing in all doors and behind rear seats.
Complete project was just under $6k and took 4 days of installation. Sounds AWESOME. For me, worth every penny !

Beautiful install... hard for me to tell but is that two 8" subs?

also was it necessary they had to keep the factory amp in place?

Yes, there are two 8" subs in a custom enclosure. We thought about putting one 10" sub instead, but decided two 8's was a better idea.

I understand it is necessary to keep the factory amp in order to make the whole system work.

Yes, I have the original sub + front and rear speakers sitting in a box. Was going to throw it on eBay at some point....

Nice...I did a single shallow 12" behind the seat in my Scab. Really filled out the lows that the stock system just dropped.
