Steering Wheel Control Button Issue
Need a little advice, or general thoughts on the issue....just looking for opinions I guess.
I have a 2020 XLT that I bought new in Oct of 2020. It was a lease, but I bought it out and paid it off. 23,800 miles currently. When I bought it from the lease agreement, I paid for Ford's ESP plan, for 6 yrs, 75,000 miles. To date, I've only had one issue, although its now a reoccurring issue.
On 8-6-24, the truck went in for service as I had an issue with the left side steering wheel controls. Several of the directional buttons no longer worked. The service was completed same day, with the dealer replacing the left side button pack. Part # FL3Z 9C888 AA. Upon getting the truck back that evening, the buttons were functioning as intended. My deductible for the repair is $100, so it was $106.50 total.
Then on 9-7-24 I had the same issue, basically. The "OK" button was non-functional, and the "up arrow" button now had the functionality of the 'up arrow" button. I called the dealer and made another appointment for the same issue. I had to wait almost two weeks to get in, and service was completed yesterday, 9-20-24. Per the service rep, they confirmed the replacement button pack was bad, replaced it with another pack, and then replaced the next part higher in that chain. That would be the SCCM part # JL3Z 3F791 AA.
Per service, there was another fee of $106.50 as they replaced another part. I paid the bill, however I argued that I shouldn't have to pay this as the first fix barely lasted 30 days. I also asked what part is next, in the event that this happens a third time. They said the next step would be the wiring harness, but that if there was an issue with that, I'd have far more issues than the button pack currently. They said it was just a fluke that the original pack went out, then 30 days later the SCCM went bad. I question that...although I'm not knowledgeable enough to argue that.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Also, is it worth trying to contact Ford over paying the extra $106.50 for another fix?
I suppose in the grand scheme of things, I've paid out $213.00 over almost $800 worth of repairs if I had been paying out of pocket. To that end, Im glad I purchased the warranty. I paid for that in cash at the time of purchase. Right now, that $800-900 bill would've hurt, so I still feel like that was a wise choice.
Thanks
