Spring Creek Rack
Anyone have any experience with Spring Creek's One Tuff Truck Rack? It looks like a great bed rack, with an optional rail system to enable use with a tonneau. Their site is a little short on reviews ... wondered if anyone has one and can share experience, pics, etc. Thanks in advance!

I have been looking into the exact same set up this winter........Spring Creek comes very highly recommended on a couple of canoe tripping Forums I frequent, unfortunately no one uses the rack system along with a tonneau cover.....The Spring Creek website (as you probably know) shows their rack system set up with a tonneau, but you can't make out the label in the photo....I contacted Spring Creek and spoke with "Chuck", he is apparently the designer/builder of their custom rack systems and he claims that their rack will work with any inside the bed rail tonneau system, however, it's been awhile since he paired any up and he can't remember which tonneaus he has seen in use with his system. I contacted a couple of tonneau companies and no one was familiar with that rack system and a couple went so far as to look the system up online and they "didn't believe" their covers would be compatible with that system. I have no doubt as to the quality of the Spring Creek rack system, I'm just leery about spending the money and then having to return everything because it won't work the way i want it to.....Chuck made some other recommendations to me and I think I have figured out what i am going to do......
I am going to re-use one of my Thule cross bars from my Suburban (with a new set of feet to fit my truck cab) and mount one bar on the back of my cab. Had i not already had the crossbars, Spring creek makes a removable suction cup crossbar that will mount on the top of any roof and i have spoken with a number of people that use this rack and rave about it. I am going to get the Spring creek bar that mounts on the truck receiver...it is fully adjustable in height so will match up with my roof bar. This will allow me to use any tonneau cover and i am leaning towards the extang solid fold 2.0 which is easily removable and utilizes no mounting frames so i willl have easy access to my bed for oversized loads should i need it. Another advantage is that this will spread the bars a couple of feet further apart which will be nice for my longer canoe/kayaks. Sorry for the long winded response.....

I had almost the exact same thoughts and was going to call them as well. Thanks for the details regarding your discussion. The rack seems to be well regarded by those who have them, but like you, I'd really like some assurances of tonneau compatibility before buying. Their suction cup roof rack is interesting and looks like its a lot easier to install and remove. I wondered about how the straps would work under the doors though for wind noise.
We'll be transporting a kayak cross country. I've been looking at the TracRac and the Adarack, but their rails seem bulkier than the Spring Creek rails. I'm thinking about going a similar way as you ... using a bed extension bar I already have but in the vertical "T" position, and picking up a single roof rack.

Thule Rear crossbar installed
gebo21 - How does that setup perform on the highway? Feel solid? Any shifting? Do you bother to tie down the front of the kayak and if so, to what? Wind noise?

Little bit of Growl at 35-40 goes away until around 3digits then it's real high pitched not loud though and that's from the cab crossbars when you have both on, But under normal loading and driving(back crossbar and Goalpost) it's a great setup. for those of us with hard tonneaus you can disassemble the goalpost and put it in the bed when you get to your destination. No I don't bother to tie down the front, just use a strap on both front and rear. I ran 2 kayaks from Florida to Maine & back this way and had 0 issues, and Yes did go over the legal limit a few times in the nearly 3,300 mile trip with no shifting or flopping. When you don't have a load across from the cab to the post, the post feels like it's loose from left to right, But hey, your not gonna leave it in the receiver empty anyway. Also you can't fully open the tailgate with the goalpost installed. Not a problem with the Fold-A- Cover G-4 as you don't have to open the tailgate to open the tonneau.
