Spotify???
Anyone on the dealer side of the equation have insight to Sync offering Spotify for the AppLink? This would be awesome. It's one of the most popular audio apps out there, hard to believe they don't have it yet. I'd much prefer to use the apps without always having to hook my phone up via USB and going through Android Auto.
while not on a dealer side
I've heard from various sources that sync 3 and the new hardware sync 4 is going to walk away for embedded apps and push towards car play and android auto integrations. Keeps the maker out of the software game - makes the mobile hardware in your pocket do most of the heavy lifting - which is what it's made for.
however on the rumor side - there's another story that says the DOT is going to quietly require all cars to have their own reporting diagnostic systems on board. IE no more need for plug in scanners and the like. YOu should be able to retrieve ALL codes the computer systems uses directly though the car itself on some display and translation system built in.
IE no need to buy a tool to read ABS codes - or trigger the abs unit when you need to properly flush the brakes. Read your AC line pressures out of the computer as they are monitored by the computer. etc etc.
I'd love for that to become reality but I bet it doesn't.

It works perfect on mine without stupid Android Auto which I disabled. I just linked BT and when I switch to it Spotify starts. I have to use the phone to change anything but Spotify itself starts up and continues wherever I last left off.
Ya, I know that it works through BT, I won't use my phone when I drive so everything is done via voice command or through the Sync interface. It's a stance I take while driving since seeing other crazies out there playing with their phones driving into oncoming traffic really upsets me.

I've not tried it though BT I've like android auto - and I like having it populate the screen. Press the steering wheel button and it responds or press the mic and voice control it. while the mobile is down in the cubby or on the console.
I suspect though BT only it would still take voice commands - never tried it. I also use WAZE everyday for the traffic too.
