Default Speedometer Light Dimmed

Looking at buying a 2015 lariat fx4 but the light on the speedometer side of the display is dimmed. It's almost looks yellow in comparison to the RPM side which is bright white. The dealer said he thinks maybe a wire or something is blocking a bit of the bulb? Dealer said you have to take apart the dash which is 7-8 labor alone and they won't touch it. I'm hesitant on buying now because it'll look me in the face every time I get in the truck and remind me there's something wrong. Thoughts? Solutions?

Only way I'd buy it is if they replaced the cluster. Since they say they wont....I wouldn't buy it. There are plenty of deals out there, just pass on this one and keep looking.

Yeah, I hear ya but I've been looking a long time and this is a good deal. I just want to see if there's a relatively easy fix for this.

Sounds like a bad LED in the cluster. If the truck has under 36K miles it is still under the bumper to bumper warranty.

Eight hours to replace a cluster is total BS!

It's over 36k miles. How much do you think it would cost to fix if it is just a bad LED bulb?

The LEDs are part of the circuit board. If you good with a soldering iron you can do it yourself for maybe a few bucks. Problem is to find a matching LED.

You can also just buy a cluster from a salvaged truck. Since it is a Lariat it has the 8" productivity screen. Those are harder to find. A new cluster is around 500.00 or so and goes in in lees then 30 minutes. If you buy a new one Ford will set it to your current mileage as far as I know.

Just have them adjust the price if you really like the truck or look for another truck.

Replacing the cluster is trivial. The programming shouldn't take long either.
