I had a 1980 Turbo Trans Am that had a bad case of Rail Dust, but I knew it didn't actually come from the rails because the previous owner had gave it a fresh paint job before I bought it. What he didn't give it was new brakes or rotors - the rust colored specks wrapped the rear end of that car up

Good lord y'all will split hairs over the dumbest ****. Rail dust, brake dust, pixie dust.... no matter what you call or what the source is it it's embedded iron. Again a claybar won't take it out, they shave it flush with the surface. Iron X is the best product on the market to get rid of it. I hit my trucks every 6 months wheels included and it always turns purple.

I'd much rather spend 30 bucks and fix it myself in 10 minutes than deal with the dealership over the course of a week plus I know the right product was used and it was done right.

This is interesting, I noticed a decent amount of rail dust (like pieces big enough you can feel them) on my truck and was planning to clay bar it. Maybe I'll hold off and use this stuff first over the truck, then clay, then wax.

I am not exactly sure where you are located, but we have a vacation home in the UP of Michigan and get terrible "rail dust" on our cars during the winter. I discovered the cause is from the sand they spread on the road during the winter. There is a lot of iron in the area and apparently the sand they spread has enough iron content to cause this. IronX is a gift from god!

Wisconsin.

I don't doubt that. It comes from multiple places. Most commonly semi metallic brakes. Not only rail transport. That's all I'm saying. It's not splitting hairs to give someone all the facts, and reasons for it. Theres rail dust on vehicles that were never transported by rail.
