Default speaker harnesses

Ok....youtube and a few forum posts have me feeling brave. I've searched and gotten a lot of good info, but still have some puzzle pieces to fill in.

2015 S/Cab 5.0, 8" MFT, no sony no nav. Looks like a 3.5" in the center, 6-3/4" in the front doors, and 6-1/2" in the rear doors according to crutchfield. Anyone confirm or deny?

Seems like upgrading to kicker speakers is a pretty cheap way to go (can get all 4 doors and the center for about $150 on crutchfield, could probably do better if I looked around), especially considering I could sell the other half of the pair of center channel speakers I'd be getting..

Removing the door panels doesn't seem bad. The part that's throwing me for a loop is the connectors. Lots of mixed info.

Truck's a lease, so if I do this it needs to be as plug and play as possible. That means I need a harness connector to go from the new speakers to the factory harness. I see some things say there's no harness available, others say the metra harness from previous years is the same and should work no problem, and others say to buy OEM speaker connectors to just wire it in that way.

So who's done it, what connectors did you use, and where'd you get them?

6x9 in front doors 3.5 in dash. Haven't looked into the rear because I am not changing them. I wouldn't bother with a harness, just keep the connector you cut off and solder it bank on when you give it back. Or leave the speakers in

To the best of my knowledge no one makes plug-n-play harness adapters at this time.

Screw pattern is different on the 6x9 too, so you'll need to come up with a solution for that.

Metra Electronics 72-5602 are the correct connectors. They have 4 wires but you can just cut the 2 extra wires off. As of a month or 2 ago no one had speaker mounting adapters.

there are adapter rings out there, that's no problem. Additionally, I've seen where the factory adapters can be removed from the factory speakers and used in the aftermarket ones.

Carid sells the factory speaker connector, I wonder why you couldn't splice in the wires with female blade terminals on the speaker end and the factory connector on the other end. I'm trying to avoid cutting connectors off if I can.

I imagine someone will have harnesses out soon. Metra's made them for every 150 all the way up til now so I can't see why it'd take much longer.

rcoles871, that 72-5602 doesn't look like the right shape for the factory connector. The 72-5600 though does look like the right shape, and looks like it's been used on mustangs and explorers at least as new as 2012.

I did see a thread on cutting up factory speakers to make adapters, but have not been able to find any aftermarket ones for 2015s.

Pricy though. MDF would be easier if you know how to use a jigsaw.

I'd be ok with the price, but it seems like these are for some specific round speakers? 6.5"?
