Default Spare Tire Lock

Did the same person who designed 2015+ door latches design this piece of garbage "spare tire lock."

I suggest anyone who hasn't, make sure you familiarize yourself with it in broad daylght in your driveway...not on side of dark road, in the rain.

And don't even bother trying to get lock to re-seat and lock. You'll destroy one key case trying. I'm just leaving a hole in the bumper on my new truck...and not locking the doors below 32 degrees.

Just an incredible level of poor design and execution.

Sorry, that's user error.

Yes, it's not great, but it stops the stupid thief.

Mine works just fine, and you do want to use check it out in daylight.

I don't know what else the OP was expecting, that's the way it works and is supposed to work. It covers the hole securely and uses only the first half of the sidemill key's cut, just like the console and the glove box.

Could be, it amazes me how many people today are so ignorant.

Maybe someone should take a look at the owners manual to see how things work?

It's not user error when the key gets full of dirt, and is inoperable. Was the first "mod" I did to mine last year, toss that thing in the garbage.....

Considering there is power everything on these trucks you would think they could come up with a power winch to lower and raise the spare tire and electronically lock it in place.
