Spare FOB left in truck tailgate not locked
#11
If I leave the fob in the truck and try to lock it using the button on the door, it honks twice when I shut the door and they remain unlocked.

Beats me. I just tried this tonight before my run. With the keys in the door pocket, I stopped the truck, didn't even hit the lock/unlock button before I opened the door, got out, hit 7/9, doors locked, went to the back to check the tailgate. It was locked and I couldn't open it.

I know this is a very old thread, but was this ever figured out? May be another thread? I just discovered this after having the truck for three years. I always leave my FOB in the truck. What is the trick to be able to leave FOB in truck and NOT have tailgate be unlocked?

With key fob in your pocket or a long way away:
7-8 and 9-0 locks all doors and tailgate.
Use of the security code and all doors and tailgate unlock.
With the key fob in your pocket all touch features are active. Even if the doors are locked the tailgate touch feature will be active.
With key fob a long way from the truck:
The touch feature for the doors and tailgate is defeated or not active.
Use security code and all doors and tailgate unlock.
With the key fob in either of the Ford inside the security locations the door and tailgate touch features are disabled, and use of the security code is required to get inside per above.
There are two key fob security locations inside the truck
1) In the bottom of the forward cup holder
2) In the slot below the hinge in the console
Test it yourself and get the same result as I did.
Refer to the owners manual on pages 71 and 79
If you do not use Ford's security location then you need to have an RFID pouch for you key fob. Totally unnecessary. Just put the key fob where Ford says to put it.
