That smell......

I turn the A/C and recirc off about about 4-5 blocks from home. At the same time I turn the fan all the way up to high.
About where you park I was just curious. I was wondering if there was any difference between parking outside and inside vs. smell. Apparently not.

Everyone’s AC stank in south Ga. That’s how we knew it was working. Lol
That initial AC day of spring was rough but 5 mins with Lysol would have you set for pretty much the entire season if using ac regularly.

I am going to press the service shop on this one. Everything is still under warranty so if they need to use some elbow grease to actually disassemble the unit and smell how rank it is with vinegar smell, and take in to account the bulletins mentioned here in coating application, then so be it.
even though this is an F150 forum, has this been seen in any of the super duty trucks?

Have read a few post with about vinegar and got to thinking, that's scary. I live in a dryer clement area and may have smelled a vinegar odor in my truck once. I read one person even got his truck warrantied with a replacement evaporator. Back to the scary part about thinking. If my truck ever starts to smell, am going to change from driving in and parking on the driveway as I do now to backing into the driveway to park.
Why, my driveway is on a slope. The drain for the evaporator is on the firewall side. If I back in, the drain will be on the down side and possibly drain more efficiently, not trapping so much moisture.
Parents had a vehicle with a vinegar order, they always parked it in garage with the windows up tight. Had the smell when I got the vehicle and odor but just disappears mysteriously, never thought about it till now. That car's new home was windows up in my driveway and my last truck never had a problem parked in the drive way. Thinking now they all had the evaporator drain on the low side while parked in the driveway. Just a thought, hope it helps some one.
Once you kill the odor, if it's bacteria growing in a damp environment, you are going to have to do something to disturb that bacteria's home environment.

Agreed this should not be an issue with this expensive of a vehicle. But on the flip side anyone could say the same thing about any vehicle issues they have. At least the solution is no cost, just time (and remembering) I suppose.

This happens on 125k autos. The designer of the AC system is worried more about getting the auto cool for the rider who will complain about the time it take to cool and less about the effects of what happens to the wet coils when done.
Every auto manufacture tech I know just said you have 2 choices: pay the cleaning/disinfectant process over time or shut the AC off and run the fan to dry to coils to not get moldy

I can vouch for the meguires air freshener car bomb. It works. I once had a major coffee spill and the curdled cream sour odor soon followed. It was cleaned up promptly but it didn’t matter.
I did a full vacuum and detail job that evening and it still was detectable days later in the summer heat. This, alongside the same musty odor from AC usage described in this thread.
I bombed it with megs and the truck smelled great for over a year. I’ve since changed my cabin air filter to the STP charcoal and baking soda impregnated filter and the AC has been odor free. I’m due for another megs bomb since life leaves odors in upholstery…. Period. But at least this time it’s mainly elective.
I can thank this thread for reminding me since I nearly forgot how well that stuff works.
