Sleeping on Firestone
Well after 79k miles on the Toyo Open Country RT's, it was time to put on new shoes. The RT's were great tires (great on road, great off road). My only problem with them was that they seemed to hydroplane from time to time. So this time around I happen to get a great deal on some Firestone Destination MT2's. And to my surprise they are some great tires. Grippy as hell. Great on road and off. And most importantly, great even in wet. Give them a look if you want something different.
I also consider them my goto tires as this is my 3rd set on my XJ..
They're quiet on the highway with just enough aggressive thread for moderate off roading and snow.
The Destination MT2's look great!
I’ve been using Destination AT tires for 13 years on my last three trucks (two 4x2 Tundras and my current 4x4 F150). Lately I’ve been pushing the off-road capability of the Destination AT tires and I’m considering the Destination MT2's or a more aggressive AT tire from a different brand.
How are the Destination MT2's on the highway? Noise and mileage compared to the Destination AT? We do a lot of road trips involving wilderness hiking and camping etc. I’m looking for a smooth ride and decent mileage plus off road capability that will keep me out of trouble when I push the stock configuration a bit too far.
I love the AT, but the mud and soft sand this last weekend was a bit much!

They are pretty quiet on the pavement but that's based off a short time of having them. I'm not sure how they will wear but from what I heard, they are vastly improved from the first MT's. They are heavier than AT's and my gas was affected. But I'd still recommend them. Great grip in rain and mud (went mudding this weekend), low road noise, and look aggressive.
