Should i buy extended warranty??

It is amazing how folks will rationalize buying an extended warranty when every consumer advocacy with national credibility advises against doing so. And, most buyers seem to disregard that they're paying interest on the warranty price for the length of their finance term.
For someone in florida, not so much....

Here is how I look at extended warranties...have a warranty to last you the length of your loan. You would hate for something big to break and you still have two years left on your loan.

I always assumed the probability of using the extended warranty and recouping the money paid for the warranty is low, or else they wouldn't make any money selling the warranty! But I've got a simple mind. Like rain man, but not as good with numbers.

And I wouldn't be financing this - would pay cash.. and there is no "note" - the truck is also paid off. I don't like paying interest..

They're offering me the Ford Premium Care Warranty for $1,095. A 5 year 75K mile warranty.. I have a 2015 F-150 2.7L SuperCrew Lariat (2WD). Seems like a decent deal? Covers me almost 40K miles over factory warranty for a grand.. with a new/unproven engine, seems to make sense?? Bought mine in June/2015 and I have 12K miles on it.. So would cover me to June of 2020, and miles would be right at 75K miles by that time...

You can fix a lot of non powertrain things for $900 ...
Standard "bumper to bumper" - 3yrs/36k
Powertrain - 5yrs/60k
Most extended warranties extend the standard bumper to bumper for 2-3 yrs at a hefty premium. Selling extended warranties is the biggest profit margin item for a dealer.

and that's EXACTLY why the finance guys in "the box" love selling these extremely high profit margin extended warranties. Car/truck buyers stop thinking rationally and are guided by emotions "hard to put a price on a piece of mind" (= don't question the math behind the price of the warranty).
MOST extended warranties people here have mentioned barely (!) go beyond the 5yr / 60k miles powertrain warranty... so your 2 engines are usually covered regardless of an extended warranty (unless of course the engine magically fails in year 6 or 7 with just 15k more miles on it).
Buying an extended warranty is like going to Vegas and betting against the house. The house nearly always wins and it's not even close. Consumer advocate groups warn against extended warranties, they get mediocre satisfaction scores in reviews... but hey... hard to put a price on a piece of mind Even worse - many finance the extended warranty with the truck purchase and it gets rolled into the financed amount. So you are not only paying for the warranty but you are also paying interest on it....
But it's hilarious when you buy a truck that the sales guys will talk all day long how good and reliable the F150 is ... and then later the finance guy makes it sound like you are about to purchase the biggest piece of junk which is about to fall apart the day the standard warranty ends...
