Default Should the 2.7 be avoided?

I was ready to purchase a 17 supercrew with a 2.7. After doing some research here it seems like many people are having issues with this engine. Am I just gun-shy or is there an actual reason to stay away?

Thanks

Although I don't have a 2.7, I know a few with upwards of 100,000 km with no issues. Ford sells a pile of trucks, and you're going to see posts with people having concerns with not just the 2.7, but all engines fords puts in these trucks.I wouldn't hesitate to buy a vehicle with any of the engines, as long as said truck suited my needs.

I spend a lot of time here and would say there are definitely not a lot of people with issues with the 2.7L.

There was a production issue for 2.7L engines built between February 2016 (I think) and January 2017. This resulted in many 2.7L engines burning oil, but it was (from what has been mentioned) an issue with the valve guides being machines improperly.

This was a short term production issue, and Ford has a TSB to correct it. Check the door jam on the driver side for a sticker that gives the build date. Most likely it will fall outside that window, if so, go for it.

I have a 2017 that has a 2.7L built within that window, and so far no issues, and I honestly don't care if I do have issues. The problem will show up within the warranty period and I will just get it handled.

Anyway, otherwise the 2.7L has been outstanding. I wouldn't be concerned with it.

IMO unless you have needs to tow >5000 lbs this engine is great. Most importantly to me, this engine is fun to drive. After a month I stopped looking at mpg and regularly utilize sport mode. When I do fill up we have good mpg when not towing but can tow our 20' boat w no problems outside of expected mpg hit.

My 2015 has 45k on it no problems with the engine the problems you see online probably dont account for much considering the amount of these trucks they sell

I've got a 2016 with over 41,000 miles. Built in the middle of the TSB range. No issues. I tow my 6,000lbs boat frequently with no issues.
