Default Shifting Into Reverse Issues

Good Day Guys,

I'm hoping I can get some help here. In 2020 I purchased a 2016 F150 XLT Supercrew 4WD that had ~ 35,000kms. I moved provinces very shortly after so I couldn't take it back to the dealership to have it looked at but it supposedly passed the inspection before purchase. I noticed an issue almost immediately and it still happens every so often. What's happening is when you shift (column mounted shifter) from P to R everything is fine but when you go from D to R it sometimes doesn't fully engage so when you go to R and hit the gas pedal, the rpm's go up but it doesn't move. It feels like its in N and I then have to go back out of R and slowly guide it back into R so that it engages. I hope that makes sense. thanks in advance.

If you shift from D to R and press the accelerator pedal too soon (not fully stopped) it will do exactly as you're describing.

I get what you're saying but that's not what is happening. It happens even at a complete stop. I have a 2018 F150 as a work truck and it has not happened even one time in the 5 plus years I've had it.

It could be an issue with the control cable being slightly out of adjustment. Readjusting it is easy and inexpensive. Worth a try.
