Sensor / EPAS Issue
Hi everyone,
A couple weeks ago I was about to drive somewhere and when I turned on my vehicle I got the "Hill start not available"/"Service advancetrac" etc. I drove with this condition for about a week until additionally to all those messages I got "Steering fault service required" and the power steering also went out. I scheduled an appointment with a dealer about a 2 hour drive away, and drove off without power steering so they could take a look. When I parked the vehicle, spoke with them, and walked back to my truck suddenly my power steering was working again! (of course). They plugged the diagnosis into the truck and got C0051 (Steering angle sensor) and C0034 (right front wheel sensor). They recommended replacing the EPAS and right front wheel sensor.
I drove back home with fully functional power steering (as well as fully functional steering sensor in the "offroad" section of the dash computer, and tracked perfectly straight no dead zone or wandering), and got no codes in the system until I pulled into my house and turned into my drive way (at a steering angle at greater than 15 degrees) where the "Hill start not available / service advancetrac " all fired off again (as well as all the angle sensors going to blank in the dash computer). However the "Steering fault" code did not fire off and the power steering is still working fine.
Can these sensors interact with each other so that one breaking could affect the other? I was thinking of just replacing my own wheel sensor and seeing if it maybe clears up the power steering issue. The fact that this error only comes up on a hard right or left turn has me hesitant to cancel the replacement. Additionally, I was driving numerous short trips before, and this was the first "long" drive (e.g. longer than about 20 mins) in a couple weeks, so I wonder if its a battery charging issue?
Just trying to avoid eating the cost of a new EPAS
Thanks!
