Default Sell to a dealer or consignment?

So I'm looking to sell my truck and DD my old Landcruiser. While I'll miss all the extras in my truck I absolutely love my FJ62. Here's the dilemma:

It's a 302a 2015 F150 XLT 4x4 sport 2.7eb
-3.55 w/e locker
-navigation
-zone 6" lift w toyo 35"s
-amp power steps
-6yr 72k extended warranty
35k miles

I owe 29k and kbb is in the neighborhood of that as trade in though it doesn't take into account the lift. I don't know about everywhere else but in Texas everyone has a truck and dealers install lifts and charge through the roof for them. I've looked online and the cheapest lifted comparable truck to mine locally is 37k for a lifted xlt with no extended warranty. There's a dealer here who generally sells high end cars and some trucks that's willing to sell on consignment at retail for a cut of course. Has anyone sold a vehicle on consignment and if so how long did it take? Has anyone ever used Carnax and if so how bad did they poke you? Should I take off the powersteps and put my old running boards so I can sell the steps here? I'm not in a huge hurry but I'd rather not have my truck on a lot while I'm still making payments. I'm hoping the fact that people really like lifted trucks around here will make it sell faster. Thx!

You can ask what you want but at the end of the day it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. Historically third party accessories and addons, including lifts, have a very poor ROI.

I guess it's a matter of just trying to get out of the loan by getting trade in value or consign it at retail to try to get some cash in my pocket. Generally I absolutely agree aftermarket parts don't do much for value but in the case of lifts, around here at least, late model trucks with a lift go for way more than their stock height/ wheel equals. Power steps though I think I might take a loss on lol.

If your truck was stock I would recommend Carmax but since you modified it I think either the consignment or eBay route is best. Carmax will not take modifications into consideration and if they do its usually lowering the price.

Not only will Carmax not give you anything for the lift and other add-ons, they will take into account that part of the their business model is to sell cars much closer to stock, which means they will probably be taking that stuff off and that will cost them for the replacement. However, they make it relatively quick and painless (their offer will hurt, there's pain there, but the process of getting the offer is painless). The offer is good for a week, I believe, too. My guess if KBB is suggesting about 29K for trade, Carmax will be in the neighborhood of 25K, 27K tops. They will almost always have something to point out that "hurts" the value and affects their offer. Yours is probably easy with the lift, but otherwise they would say "it's the smaller EB V6" or "gas prices are always going to make trucks hard to sell" or "people don't really like red cars these days" or something. (Take in your buddy's identical black truck next week and find out "people don't really black cars these days--they mostly go after red." They probably have some file in their computer that is a Rolodex of excuses.) By the way, a lot of respectable dealers shy away from cars that have significant mods, too. They pay less, not more. Works like this. The right buyer will pay more when he sees what's been done, but the pool of those types of buyers is pretty small. And even then, some of those buyers know this and even they get away with paying less. If you sell yourself or through consignment, find every way you can to advertise the hell out of it. Craigslist, every forum like this you can find, park it on a high volume street for a few days with big for sale signs in every direction, on ebay--in a way that ensures you don't get stuck with a low ball offer.
