Selectable Driver Modes - Actual Changes
I can't feel the Stability Control or Traction Control back off the threshold when playing with the shift mode so despite what was posted above I believe you still have to double tap the TCS Button to get those in Sport Mode.
It has some effect but I forget exactly what. IF I recall correctly eco mode would let the requested speed drift further. So say set at 50. GOing uphill it would drift to 48 in normal, and kick down a gear. In eco it would drift down to 46 or so and kick down a gear. Really steep hill - normal kicks down 2 gears - eco might only kick down one - but this is far more dependent on load demand. IE hill is steep enough engine and trans will want 2 gears down to run at a more optimum torque to RPM range.
The confusing part there - you a lug down an engine enough that it is actually less efficient in terms of specific fuel consumption (torque/l fuel burned). So the computer is calibrated for this and there will be times is is prefered to run more RPM with more gearing - than it is to lug at low RPM with less gear. (often this split occurs at the overdrive gears) This differential is more often and more pronounced with more gears to choose from. I mean 5-6 and 7 aren't that far apart for example.
This is one of the place where the world of programing helps the whole shebang. The same engine and transmission in 4 different platforms have 4 different program settings that take into account veichle weight, aero drag and driveline drag as a factor to saving that next MPG.
IE - same conditions the expedition might act different, and the mustang will act different. Same engine, and trans. and all 3 will be running as efficiently as they can.
Only time I like to click over to eco mode is when I roll down the highway for a long road trip and honestly it doesn't help much and I know this. Why - in stop and go city traffic of my normal commute - I know I'm MPG screwed regardless - so I occasionally flip to sport mode.
If I had a different commute I might do differently.
Holding button displays a different message and turns off more nannies.
I'm not sure which ones, but it noticeably roasts the tires after holding the traction button to turn it off.
Hold down: AdvanceTrac turns completely off until 35MPH.
Double press: AdvanceTrac Sport mode, still has AdvanceTrac systems but less restrictive.
Does nothing, multiple attempts, following the simple install video 100%.

I contacted the seller, so we'll see
Partially true... with pure factory build, always defaults to Normal DM and no setting allows you to modify. But I just found yesterday a memory module to save previous DM each time truck is turned off. I haven't bought/tried it yet but it's about $50 on timers.shop website. It plugs inline within the floor-shifter's wiring, and the site has a helpful DIY video showing it done in about 20 mins.
Thanks to Napalm and others! Can I ask what is best setting for when I drive, without trailer, back from Asheville NC and go down the steep mountain (either I-40 or I-26) with its several runaway truck ramps indicating the descent angle is dangerous?
I wouldnt use a settings, I would just lock out some of the upper gears.
