secure idle question
Hello everyone, I’m interested in enabling secure idle in my truck due to the increase in thefts. My question is whether secure idle will work in my 2015 Ford F150 XLT with a regular key (not push-button ignition).do i need any additional hardware or just forscan ? Thank you.
Not sure what you're trying to achieve here. If you have remote start, and start your truck remotely, it can't be shifted out of Park until you insert the key.
The "secure idle" in FORScan ensures a keyless-ignition truck can't be shifted out of Park if the driver exits the running vehicle and takes the fob with him. Those trucks have sensors which can tell if the fob is inside the truck.

if someone REALLY wants your vehicle... all they have to do is go under it and move the shift linkage on the trans and push it down the road. Although that may set off the built in alarm... honking and lights flashing
i dont think secure idle applies to key type sytems unlike the fob type. As mentioned with fob type vehicles, the shifter locks inplace and cant be moved without the fob in the cab. "Has to be in the cab "

FYI on that "increase in thefts" - U.S. auto theft rates are the lowest they've been since the 1960s, partly due to things like your security key and alarm that make vehicles harder to steal than they were a couple decades ago. The peak auto theft rate was over 650 per 100,000 about 30 years ago; in 2021 the rate was 221 per 100,000, which was up a bit over the previous year. People who are intrested in frightening you will use a short timeline so you don't understand that current crime rates of all types are near historic lows.
