Default Screen going black

I went to drive my truck today and noticed after I remote started, that my touch screen was black. Couldn't get it to do anything, didn't turn on for my backup camera or anything. I tried fiddling with it and couldn't get anything out of it.

After driving for a minute or two I saw SYNC come up on the screen and it was installing some update. So two questions, 1: Did this thing attempt to let me know it was going to do this, but I just didn't see it because I remote started? 2: Where and how did this thing get an update? I don't have any subscription service or anything, so how did it get this update?

Mine did this exact thing about a week ago. Would be interested in a answer also.

My truck does have the thing that allows it to be a mobile wifi hotspot, but I have not set any of that up. Really wish it would prompt me before it just does an update like that, since it disabled my screen. This reminds me of Windows annoying propensity to just install updates and then reboot if you don't tell it specifically to postpone them.
