Default Scratched Windshield

Ok team, so I messed up. A bird did his business on my windshield and I used a scotch pad sponge to remove it. In doing so it actually scratched the surface. I assume the glass on my 2015 F150 has some type of coating on it. Anyone know of a good way to remove these scratches? Unfortunately it is right in my line of sight.

You could try waxing it... I've never heard of scratching up a window. By scotch pad sponge, do you mean the kitchen sponge with the somewhat soft scrubber on the back, or are you meaning like a Brillo pad?

That's it. I used a kitchen Scotch Brite sponge. One of the yellow ones with a green pad on the back of it. The droppings had gotten hard on the windshield and just water and a paper towel was not getting it off, so I mistakenly used the sponge. I already tried to polish it with glass polish and all that did was make a circle that hazes up when it is humid. That's what leads me to believe there is some type of surface material on the glass.

Odd, I wouldn't expect that to do anything to the glass. I used one of those on the glass on my 07 all the time...

Try the wax and see if that does it. Otherwise I'd go to the dealer and ask them what's going on. I'm unaware of any coating on the windshields, even with the "SoundScreen".

Every time I got superficial scratches in glass, I was able to remove most or all of it using 0000 steel wool and some kind of water deposit remover (something like jewelers rouge consistency). I'm not sure if there is a coating on the windshield, but if its just plain glass that has always given good results for me.

Similar thing happened to me. I had some over spray from a shop down the road while parked at work. I used a razor blade to take it off and found a few scratches on my windshield, this really pissed me of. Thats the first I've ever seen a windshield scratch so easy. I tried using a scratch removing polish but that didn't help. Don't ask me why I didn't use my clay bar, I did use on all of the paint though.

Not sure what you expect the dealer to do? Those sponges have that "abrasive" pad to scrape dried food off of dishware. Yes it can scratch glass.

I'd try the steel wool and jewelry polish that 14STX said. Or a clay bar like Khislop suggested.

The abrasive pad isn't typically that abrasive. Glass dishes aren't always scratched up from them, and I've used them on my truck glass before (not the windshield) and never had an issue. Makes me think there's something else going on.

Well I don't think you'd use it to clean your eyeglasses or sunglasses. I wouldn't use it on my vehicle glass either.
