Scan Gauge or Ultra Gauge
#92
Has anyone out there used the new ultra-gauge blue? http://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge-blue.htm
I have a bunch of leftover Android phones and tablets, I'm thinking about getting this and dedicating a mount + phone or 7" tablet. I already have a generic ELM 327, but what caught my eye on the UG blue was a statement about it collecting information even if/when the phone/tablet wasn't connected.

Had some issues doing the initial setup, but I think that was an issue with the device I was using. It didn't help that I was trying to do this at night in a dark garage. I now have multiple phones/android devices able to pair with it, so everything appears to be working with the device.
So far, pretty nice as it leverages Android/ios to have nice looking gauges. After setting up the device, you can upload the settings to their web site (cloud), where the settings can be downloaded to another device.
One of the biggest issues I'm having is just not being familiar with all of the gauges and settings that I can choose from! I feel like an idiot with this thing as there are hundreds of choices, analog, digital, graphs (over time), and alerts. Also each of the choices can be tweaked. So any guidance folks have would be appreciated as to "useful" information to monitor.
It comes with the device and a small piece of paper (minimal instructions). I did find (via google) a manual online: https://ultra-gauge.com/blue/UltraGa...l_10_14_15.pdf.
If folks post some interesting things to set up/monitor, I can do that an report back. Other than Boost and things like fuel consumption, what would be good to display?
(One issue is that I haven't been using the new truck all that much as I have two other winter vehicles on the road) and I'm also playing around with the best way to do mounting for the device. I'm currently leaning towards using the small flat space to on top of the dash under the a-Piller. I intend to have a dedicated display for this (I have a bunch of android tablets and android phones), a dedicated display (phone/tablet) for an in-vehicle GPS (instead of moving my current gps over) and perhaps even a dedicated phone as a video recorder.

How's she goin' eh?
Bump.
I have an ultragauge and even though I didnt need to install it (cluster does a lot), I did.
It was connected for 2/3 days and tonight I tried to start the truck with the remote start and it didn't, it just did the improper sequence arming. I didn't think anything of it and when I got in the truck and started it, it seemed like it was struggling to start. Like if your battery was weak. I don't have any lights regarding the battery dying and haven't had issues when it was colder this winter.
I took it for a 30 minute drive to charge the system just in case and had no problems on that trip. I unplugged mine as soon as I started the truck after noticing that when I turned on the truck the ultragauge was scanning as if I had just plugged it in.
What I'm curious about all this is, has anyone had issues with a battery being killed or weakened with their units?
I put it back in the garage and will only use it to read codes at this point.

I didn't have issues when it was in my ranger but heard of other people who did.

No issues here either.
Mine goes off with open door. It does rescan when unplugged and plugged back in though.
