Default Running Boards rusting

I have a 2020 with chrome package . It is only 30 months old and the running boards are staring to rust. Yes I live in the rust belt, but this seems very early for this to occur so soon. I keep it clean and regularly go through the auto wash during winter months. Anyone else having this issue? TIA.

My 2020 is 35 months old, live in the rust belt and I have not noticed it yet. I'm pretty sure it is covered under your 3/36 warranty.

2017 Lariat with chrome package, yup rusting on the surface areas. Kinda little pits appearing. I rust proof the vehicle every year too.

I would suggest using a chrome polish a couple times a year. And spray salt and dirt from backsides of bumper during the salt months.
No promises, but it’s kept my bumpers rust free. I have the cheaper black plastic running boards, so no problem there, but I spray the mounting brackets regularly in the winter.

If you are still under the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, take it to the Dealership to have them replaced. When I had mine in for an oil change with 3 months left on the warranty, I showed the peeling on the running boards to the Service Manager. He took pictures that Saturday and by Thursday I had a voice message when I got home from work that my running boards were in and to call them to set-up an appointment to have them replaced. Attached are pictures of the peeling that was occurring and the replaced running boards.

The chrome boards are garbage they all peel in 12-36 months. They had TSB's out the wazoooo. I bought painted ones for my SuperCrew, removed the pads light sanded, and then used bed liner. They look great and are easy to take care of.

Went through the same thing with my 2018. The chrome was bubbling/peeling in multiple areas. At around the 30 month timeframe, got them replaced under warranty with new Ford OEM's. Before a year went by (now past 36 months) the new replacements were already bubbling. Ford said too bad so sad. They would gladly replace at my cost with the same crappy boards. I even asked for the painted ones instead of the chrome, but they said NO. I'll keep the current boards until they get a little worse, but eventually will replace with something else.

i took the black ones off my 19 cause people kept door dinging them. they were cheap thin aluminum that flaked super easy. I put some solid aluminum raptor boards on... they'll door ding a tank before showing wear. I suggest you go that route.
