Default Running Board Chrome

Anyone seen this bubbling, it is getting worse mostly where the chrome meets the black stripe inserts.

Haven't seen it on the steps, but definitely on my rims and grille

Yep...Ford replaced mine last spring under warranty. Replacements seemed a little heavier....hope that translates into a more robust coating.

Mine were barely showing signs of peeling when my truck was nearing 3 years old. When I had the truck in for an oil change in November I had the dealer take a look at it since my warranty was ready to expire in less than 3 months. They took pictures to submit to Ford on a Saturday and had the new running boards by Thursday. Here's pics of the peeling and the replacement running boards. If you have a good dealership to work with Ford will replace them under warranty with no hassle.

Yes happened on mine. I just cleaned them up the best I could and sold on FB marketplace. Went on Ebay and bought black OEM boards. No more rust problems and I actually made $10 on the whole deal. I think the chrome package with the black boards looks really nice.

I got the black ones just because I was worried about the chrome going bad in my salty Ontario winters.

But I did buy the chrome hood deflector from Ford Accessories and I'm on my second try with my dealer to get warranty for it. First the chrome started to get that rainbow color in it, now it is bubbling. I know it is from stone hits, but I didn't see anything in the fine print saying it is for museum use only. If they're going to sell it, it should be able to go up and down the highway.

Here's the black boards from Ford Accessories. I like chrome, but thought the black boards fit with all the other black trim pieces. Can't wait for summer so I can put my factory rims back on.

I ditched my chrome boards and put on the magnetic OEM instead. I was worried about bubbling, but more importantly they were a real bitch to keep clean. The darker ones are much easier, and they look better too, IMO. Found them as takeoffs on Facebook marketplace for $125, then turned around and sold my old ones for $130

I have the black molded factory ones (like those pictured above) that came on my STX. I would still have them on my truck if I hadn't put Raptor boards on at 4000 miles. If anyone is in central NC and interested in making an offer and picking them up, please PM me. Never going to have a flaking problem with them.
