Hey everyone. So I have a fx4 and the front right rotor has been making a noise as if the rotor is warped an the brake pad is rubbing. I can only hear it at 20+ mph and the dealer told me that it's normal.. I have to have the AC & radio off with windows up to hear it. I may be just over reacting since it drives me nuts knowing that it does it. Anyone else hear this sound? I pulled the brake caliper off just to make sure no rock or debri was in it but nothing. This has been going on since day 1. This is the only rotor that has the rings warn into it. Maybe just brake pad compound?

Looks just like my right front, 2 dealers said all is normal! Ordered some new front pads to put on after turning rotors. 36K BTW.

Just throwing this out there. Is it possible that it's not the rotor but the transfer case? I have an XL Supercab 5.0 with the ticking/rotational scraping noise coming from the transfer case. I hear it under the same condition you described ie windows up with radio and ac off. There has been lengthy discussion regarding this transfer case issue.

Looking at the grooves/wear at the top vs the bottom it looks like it was not torqued properly and not installed in a star pattern. Looks like bottom was tightened and top bolts were loose.

Look at the width of the grooves at top vs bottom. Top grooves look much wider.

I would recommend reinstalling properly, with torque wrench, in a up,down, right, left pattern. It should correct itself in a couple hundred miles. Assuming you don't have thousands of miles on it.

Road debris got into the pad at one point. Sand the pad down and the noise should go away. Warranty may machine your rotors if you are under 1 year 20k kms

They can all be 150 but if the bottom 3 are tigtened first, that is not good it has to be star pattern, as the wheel lugs hold the rotor properly aligned.

Had that happen on my last truck.

Rotors warping is a common misconception. They don't warp; rather, uneven pad deposits get left on the rotor and cause a pulsation whenever brakes are applied. If it's significant enough, there can even be a shuddering sensation during normal driving. Happens most frequently when the rotors are really hot and get wet (ie. going through a puddle or when driving on the highway in the rain) and the brakes are applied in a pulsating rhythm (think kind of like ABS).
One way to get rid of it is by turning down rotors and re-seating the pads, but some people have had success with ***safely*** getting up to speed (50+mph) on an open, clear country road and hitting the brakes hard (as in 90%, just before they lock up). Do it a couple times and re-check. I just recently fixed the brakes in my wife's van by doing this. Give it a shot, it costs nothing

Hey Antho - I just sent you a PM. Seems like this noise is a recurring issue with other F150 owners. I just made the jump from Jeep to Ford this past Sunday and purchased a 2017 F150 Platinum and I too hear the exact same noise. It sounds just as you described.... Did you ever get to a root cause?

I read other threads similar to yours and in each post there is no resolution. Lots of dealer visits, but no specific fix mentioned. Someone even mentioned driving a new F150 at the dealer and hearing the same noise. Interesting stuff.

Thanks!

baycrew, I ended up trading the truck in for another 2015 awhile back. my current truck does not have this issue. I never resolved or figured out what it was.
