Exactly, I have a huge open pan so it catching the oil isn't an issue. The oil hitting the sway bar and the bottom of the trans cooler is what makes it splash everywhere. I do agree, the filter makes a mess too...

That being said, another reason for the new plug for me is to be able to collect samples for analysis. Plus being able to connect a hose and drain directly into a jug will be nice too, I used to do that with my Fumoto valves in the past and it was really easy.

Default Ronin Oil Drain Plug

Good point. Anyone with a Ronin Plug willing to see how much oil is left by draining your oil then removing the entire Ronin assembly to see how much more oil comes out? I would think it wouldn't make much difference but I would like to know before purchasing.

On a side note...I contacted Ronin and was told they will have extra o'rings and drain valves available soon.

I just changed my oil today for the first time. Needless to say that the messiness is not being overstated.

Oil comes out of the pan with pressure and hits the bar ensuring the oil goes places you don’t want it.

With that being said I think $80 is a little crazy, I bet the price comes down at some point in the not so distant future.

Not that much of a discount but if you put RF10 in the discount code you get 10% off.

I've looked into it but I think instead I'm going to get a larger oil drain pan and put some matting in it.

biggest issue I have is not aligning to get the stream - is that the stream is so fast and hits so hard - it fan sprays off my oil drain pan

another thought I have is making a stilt/stand for the pan to position it 2 inches or less away from the oil drain.

I noticed in a shop, on a lift - with those industrial 55 gallon drum oil catchers - if you can put the large funnel right up under the drain hole it does seem to make any mess.

I just did my first oil change on my 2.7 EB and didn't experience the mess everyone is experiencing.
I didn't pull out the plug completely at first. I allowed it to come out far enough to allow the oil to drain slowly and held it there until the drain started to slow down, then I let it loose. The oil drains straight down.

Not convenient but more so than cleaning up a mess.
Hope this helps!!

First time i changed the oil in the truck i got a hot oil bath, so did my tire and a bit of my rotor. I can do it now without making a mess but its a pain having to hold the plug partially in to slow the flow. I have been considering one of these plugs, but the remaining oil in the pan is a concern. Any one kind enough to drain theirs with the valve, then take it out and see how much remaining oil comes out next time?

I'd be interested to know how much old oil remains in the oil pan as a result of this device sticking up into the pan. Is the top of the drain plug flush with the oil pan? I wouldn't think that would be possible.

In other words, after someone used this drain plug for an oil change, if they were to unscrew the drain plug, how much MORE oil would drain out?
