I can program my sidestep to off and it stays up all the time. When I select down it still retracts and extends with the door opening. I'd like it to stay down. Something I'm not doing?

 

You can select the down option but as soon as you reach 3 mph it retracts and returns to auto. The retractable boards hang lower and wider so if left down you would likely damage them. Off is a good idea to use when in slushy winter driving or if you take your $50-60 truck in the mud.
