So, the wrench icon showed up again (!) - after the dealer cleared it 2 days ago. I took it, while the icon was on, to the mechanic I’ve trusted for nearly 20 years. He runs a scan on it and comes up with a “stored code” indicating a bad transmission fluid pump and says “You have to replace the entire tranny”
😳😳 REALLY?!?!? 😳😳
Uh no... you just have to replace the pump assembly. Does require pulling the transmission.
Assuming you have a 10 speed tranny, the pump is replaceable.
It is a unique design used in the 10R80, and the GM 10L80 transmissions. They actually designed the transmission together.
Remove the valve body and then you can remove the pump.
4 bolts holding it in.

Just to confirm - Does, or does not require trans removal ? Since the valve body does not (that I am aware of)...
You said “10-speed.” I’m pretty sure this is a 6-speed. Is it still possible to replace just the pump? Most places I’ve talked to say they won’t know until they drop it and open the case. FYI: parts and labor for a reman
unit = $5,200. (!)

How about telling us the trim level and engine of your truck so you can get accurate info.

You can do it with the tranny in place, however it is easier to pull it and do a full inspection to make sure the the drive gear coming off the torque converter is not damaged.
This is all moot of course since this is a 6 speed and not a 10 speed.
