Removing OEM GPS module.

Removing OEM GPS module.
I'm in the process of replacing my 4.2" radio with the PAC dash kit and a Kenwood double DIN GPS unit.
While dismantling my dash, I was also pondering where to mount the antenna for the new stereo.
While prodding around I noticed a flat box mounted forward of the speaker.
After tracking down the part number, it appears to be the factory GPS module.
Since this would be an ideal place to mount my new GPS antenna, I've thought about disconnecting the factory module and using that location.
I imagine that I'd be losing Sync's 911 assist feature, which is GPS dependent. But since I'm removing the Sync module, itself, it's doubly useless.
Thoughts?
