Default Remote tailgate release problems

I'm not sure if this issue is my truck only or a known one. My Lariat has the remote tailgate release. It seems to only actually open the tailgate if I'm on an incline. Other wise, it just pops and doesn't fall down. It's not a big issue because I don't use the feature very much. I'm afraid I'm gonna pop it one day and forget to close it, thus having it open while I'm driving.

Any suggestions or solutions? I've gotta take it in for warranty work when parts arrive so I'll have probably have them look at it then anyways.

If you have a tonneau cover, then it's not an issue - that's what is causing it.

If you don't have a tonneau cover, and you park on a level street, then it should open. As far as popping it accidentally, since you have to hit the fob twice to get it to open, the only way it should happen is if you do it intentionally, therefore, you should then go back and use it...

I'm not worried about accidentally popping it in my pocket. I'm worried about hitting the button to pop it...not opening...then forgetting I popped it for whatever reason. Like maybe showing off my awesome tailgate release and jt not working.....then after getting my ***** busted, forgetting to go slam it shut.

I'm looking into getting a bed cover but don't have one now.

If you don't have a cover, I'd take it to the dealer and see if they can sort it out. It should drop itself on level ground. Your latches may not be reacting with enough force to give the tailgate it's initial little push.

SSM 45100 - 2015 F-150 - Tailgate Sticks Closed When Attempting To Open

Some 2015 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a tailgate that does not open without assistance when using the handle or key fobs. The tailgate relies on gravity to open once the latch is released. If the vehicle is not on a level surface, the tailgate may not open without assistance. If the tailgate is remaining closed when on level ground, ensure the latches are releasing by gently pulling on the tailgate while trying to open. If the tailgate opens with some assistance, then use Motorcraft Silicone Spray Lubricant XL-6 or Equivalent to lubricate the tailgate rubber stops. If the tailgate latches have not released when commanded, then refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-14 for normal diagnosis.
