Recommendation on the best way to black out your emblems.
Hello,
I have a 2017 f-150 that I just recently got a 2 1/2 inch lift kit and some 33 inch tires.
Now i'm trying to make the whole truck blacked out.
Is it best to get a local place to vinyl wrap my current emblems or do I need to pay for black emblems directly from a parts site?
My goal is to have the front and back ford logos black and all f-150 logos black.
The place I went to today said they could vinyl wrap the letters but the sides of the letters would still be chrome. Unless I'm not thinking right, that sounds like some BS.
Any thoughts?

The place you went to isn't wrapping them then. They're just placing vinyl cutouts over the flat parts. You could also plastidip them. Both of these methods might get ripped off by wind or a pressure washer. You can either just remove them and rattle-can them black, or order new ones. That's the best permanent solution.

Vinyl wrapping those letters would be a huge PITA, if possible at all. Quite a few guys use PlastiDip on them. Another brand, Rustoleum Peel Coat seems a better product IMO. I've used both. Your ovals, if you do a Google, you'll come up with many places that do overlays and custom painting. Our own "mbullock" does fantastic work with paint. I'd recommend him over anyone else. He can do the badges on the fenders as well. The F150 on the tailgate, I'd just take off, looks a bunch cleaner, but if you insist on keeping them, I'd use some Peel Coat on them, although it's a bit of a PITA.

My badges are done in Peel Coat like Johns. Holding up very nicely and I pressure wash my truck almost weekly. Even my bumpers are done in Peel Coat! Good stuff and if you don't like it, ju st peel it off like a blister! LOL!

If you still want a splash of color, you could go to the SE emblems... black with a red outline.

Plasti dip for sure! do it yourself too. I did mine a couple months ago and theyve held up fine, my truck gets covered in bugs and i spray the badges no problem at the carwash. I did a friends car years ago and his grill is peeling after 2 winters but its easy to peel off and re do

For the front and rear emblems, I went with some OEM ones painted gloss and semi-gloss black by an eBay seller. There's a couple of sellers on eBay, and can be found with a quick search. Just be careful to make sure you are getting the correct OEM emblems, there are variations (there's a good thread on here with all the correct part numbers). I've used vinyl on previous cars, and have found that gloss black in particular doesn't wear very well, and wanted painted for such prominent emblems. Pics:
The side emblems I wanted all-black as well, but apparently the part number my dealer used was for the black/red. They're growing on me, although I wish the Lariat was in black and just the outline was red, I may paint that Lariat lettering black myself.
And lastly, since I ended up with the red/black side emblems, I bought some black/red vinyl stickers for the center caps. These were also from eBay.
