Default In for recall repairs, they couldn't do any module changes

I took our 2016 with 18K miles in for recalls right before the warranty expires. I asked them if there had been any software updates in 3 years, ECM, TCM, etc. They said maybe, for $79 they just hook up to the truck and any updates download automatically, but they can't tell if there were any updates done, or what they would have been. Does that sound right, it's completely blind??? Are there good changes that are super well known in this forum that I would get?

I grabbed lines from the FORScan thread's spreadsheet and asked them to program them in, like I had them do with the fake engine noise elimination 3 years ago. I picked instrument display quick boot, 5 flash turn signals, gauge details, and 30 minute radio timeout. This time, 3 years later, they said they were having a hard time getting into the modules. They said they called Ford engineering to get instructions, but I haven't heard back from them. Is this a bad sign, should I take it to another dealer for this elective work? Is it that hard? I didn't tell them that forum guys do their own with hacking software.

Thanks for any insights.

Why wouldn't you just get an OBD reader and Forscan and do it yourself?

Sounds to me like you might need to find a better service dept.

I tried to do this myself a couple of years ago, I got the hardware. The only laptop I have is my employer provided unit, I downloaded the software but the Bluetooth wouldn't connect. I didn't want to pursue it with out IT guys and get caught with unauthorized software on my PC, especially since the source seems to be from Russia, with love.

I have a new PC, but if the dealer will throw the changes in with the $79 updates while they are hooked up, I might as well let them do it and take the risk of bricking the truck!

So, are there Ford updates that I should be really excited for?
