Default Rear Electronics/Lights

Hello all! I have 19 F150 that I’m having some electrical issues with. First the backup camera quit and I didn’t care to replace it as I’ve gone my entire life without one. My license plate lights went out as well. Then both back up lights went out and new bulbs won’t fix it. The right taillight and brake lights work when I hit the brakes or use the turn signal but the lights don’t turn when I turn my lights on. I’m thinking it’s a wiring harness or something. I tried to replace the wiring harness at the light itself but no luck. Don’t really want to pay someone to look at it for hours and charge and arm and leg but I’m headed that direction. Anyone else have anything similar?

Welcome to the forum.

Your truck probably has DTCs stored for those circuits. The BCM has disabled those circuits until the issue is fixed. You can try disconnecting the battery for a good long while and see if that clears them, if not, you'll need to grab Forscan so you can see what codes are there and use it to clear them.

.
The harness usually plugs up to a main coming back from the from the front.
Trace it out and back to the connector and see if that's where the issue is. Look along the driver side rear area of the frame.
You can't just ignore these problems for everyone's safety while driving.
Good luck.

Check the electrical connectors by the spare tire. They can sometimes get water inside which causes shorts. The circuits are powered from the BCM and protected by FETs (Field Effect Transistor). If the FETs trip too many times they set a DTC and permanently shut the circuit off until the DTC is cleared. As mentioned before, you need to check for DTCs after you check the connectors. The DTCs will not clear themselves. You need FORScan or a high-end diagnostic tool to do this. A typical OBDII code reader will not work.
