Default Rear backup sensor question...

Do your sensors beep when you have the tailgate down... And if they do should they?

Mine beep only in reverse with the tailgate down, on a 2016. Later models might be different.

And they should, since the backup camera shows an obstruction.

Yes. But only when in reverse. You can turn it off if you want. But just for that trip.

2015 - In reverse with the tailgate down it beeps regardless what's behind you.

What I don't know is if it's the sensors in the bumper seeing the tailgate or if it's the camera looking down. I always thought it was the sensors sensing the tailgate.

That is always what I figured but it's always my drivers side that alert never the passenger side. I didn't know if it was normal. Seems like Ford could have put the sensors a little farther down on the bumper to get around this issue.
