This post and many others show that some people have time to waste. Some must forget that we have been using back up cameras for 10+ years and are on the 3rd truck from this manufacturer. There may be a chance we have checked the camera cleanliness or even looked for scratches. We recognize that the newer, more expensive trucks should not have a feature that performs worse than before. And others seem to think this is a mounting location issue, although it's been in the same place...

The Front AND Rear cameras on my 16 Lariat pretty much are useless. Way out of focus... With the Front Camera, you can't read a license plate when only 2' away from the car... I can't use the rear camera for backing up, as I simply can not see enough detail to tell, is that a kid, or a stain on the pavement. and at Night, I see absolutely nothing in the backup camera but a grey screen with colored floating objects that move when I move.. It is a good thing I learned how to back up a truck and trailer back in the 70s using the mirrors, without a camera!

Side cameras, seem crystal clear and much brighter then the front and rear cams.

Yes... I cleaned them... and I paid the have them professionally polished, just in case it was the lens! Next step, is to debate with the dealership, that they need replacing.

Default 2012 vs 2017.

My girlfriends 2012 king ranch has what looks like HD quality picture on back up camera. My 2017 is terrible. Daytime included.

My question is. Is it the camera lens or the touchscreen monitor ? Is there a aftermarket touch screen that you can replace the oem touchscreen with, or the lens as well

Thanks

On a seperate note: I am wanting to add a backup camera to my 2012. If it is mounted in the tailgate, can you still remove the tailgate when needed?

This is a funny thread. How good does it need to be to not hit a tree, trash can, dog, or child? Are ya'll trying to read the Sunday paper through your reverse cameras?

The backup/forward camera on my 2016 Lariat aren't the best, but I won't say they are useless either. They serve their purpose. Higher resolution would be nice, but they work right now. I've found the biggest thing is keeping them clean. If they aren't clean then its hard to see any real detail.

Wait a minute... 10yrs? How did people drive in reverse before that? Did vehicles only go forward and why do I have 3 mirrors when I have BLIS?

For all wondering, if the cameras and displays are all the same or better than previous years, the problem can be crappy low grade wiring. This is the reason you aren't getting real HD quality on any backup cameras.
