Real World 2015 F-150 3.5 EB MPG Report
 

Hey guys I have never owned a Ford before however I have been reading a lot on here and about other brands and been struggling on deciding which brand truck to buy. However on a recent business trip this month to Florida I had an opportunity to drive a new F150 with 3.5 EB for 4 days.

I was intersted to see what kind of MPG this engine really got with my driving style. I had 2 days of city driving and 2 days of highway driving which was over 100 miles each way. After these 4 days I have to say if I go to a 1500 truck it will be the new F-150 (still kicking around going to HD diesel).

Here are the results that I experienced:

First day of city driving 55.6 miles city: 20.1 MPG (drove normal, no hot rodding, drove like I would everyday. Moderate traffic Tampa/Clearwater FL area. Note: for most of the trip I had myself and about 350 lbs of cargo in the cab.

Day Two highway trip Tampa to Gainesville FL 141.7 miles: North bound, cruise set at 74 MPH average 24.5 MPG. Highway driving, moderate traffic some slow downs to low 60's here and there with traffic.

Third day highway trip for 118.6 miles average 23.6 MPG

Total miles driven: 350
Spent the last day hot rodding it and really getting into the turbo and WOW what a fun time! I was breaking the rear wheels lose in 3rd gear! Lots of fun for sure!

I have to say I was left with a very positive impression. It is the most quiet vehicle I have ever driven and this includes my luxury SUV I am currently in. Engine has all the power and get up and go you could ever ask for. I was super happy with the MPG, my current vehicle is premium only and averages 17 in mix driving around Chicagoland. Best highway I have seen is 24 but typically around 22 so to have a full size truck perform better and on regular gas I was very impressed.

I am in the market for a Platinum so I won't spend time discussing the XLT, overall I have to say they have the best 1/2 ton truck on the market.

On a side note I was pretty confident I was going to end up in a Ram Lariat Limited with Hemi however after driving them on business trips and riding in a friends new Ram the "B" pillar is in the wrong spot for me. With the seat all the way back (I am tall) my arm hits the B pillar forcing me to move my seat forward so my arm can comfortably rest on the arm rest. This cuts down leg room which is a deal killer. I will probably spend $5K or more for the Ford but comfort is that important!

Way to go Ford...you have achieved the hardest thing in the truck world and that is getting a life long buyer of a non Ford brand to switch over.

Depends on how you drive. Here's what my Trip 1 reads right now.

This tank was mostly running around my area, very little freeway and getting up to speed for long. Quick runs to the store. I think a Raptor would have done 3.2 mpg in the same scenario (seriously).

I live in Colorado. Going south from Monument through Colorado Springs (the elevation goes down by about 1000 ft) I've seen up to 31 mpg!

It actually kept climbing a bit more after I took this picture. Got to about 31.5 mpg over 12 miles before we exited. But we were going down hill the entire time. Once you put it into context it makes sense.

All negated by the drive home (back up the nearly 1000ft incline) where we got 18.9 mpg. So it averaged out to 24.75 mpg. Still impressive. Driving to and from DIA both directions (~140 miles) we averaged about 24 mpg, two times. Always running 91 octane.

There's room for improvement. Waiting on a Livernois tuner to come in the mail. Hopefully they can help me tune it better for the high altitude and improve the efficiency. That is of course if I can keep my foot off the gas.

Florida is also at sea level so I would suspect much better MPG then CO

I am now averaging about 19 MPG for everyday driving on nearly all secondary roads and trips less the 20 miles.

Same set up in my truck. My numbers are very close. My highway mpg is a little higher around 20.4-20.7. I can't believe that I can't get better numbers though. Even my friends call me the "gas mileage king",so my numbers are a disappointment to me, but I still love this truck!

I admit I am driving to achieve maximum mileage. It is nearly flat where I live. The truck has around 2000 miles on it. I start off very easy and go to cruise control quicly and bump it up the last 10 miles an hour. I even set the cruise in my driveway. 99 per-cent of my driving is on roads with a max speed limit of 50 MPH I set it at 55 and let the cruise adjust for traffic. On a trip of about 50 miles on secondary roads I can get 23 MPG. The trick is staying out of boost.
