Default Re-code after installing a different trailer brake module

Quick question, had to replace my trailer brake module and got the exact same one I've been running for a year now that I had no issues with until something happened out of my control. But anyway, just installed it and I'm wondering, since I don't have a trailer at my house at the moment, do I have to get it re-code if that's the right term for this new trailer brake module?

Just hooked the truck up to a trailer and everywhere on the dash it shows the trailer is connected, says it is connected but on the trailer gain screen when I manually adjust, it will adjust the number and in turn adjust the sensitivity/strength of the brakes but when I adjust the gain on the module, the dash say "Trailer Gain 5.5 Trailer Disconnected" or something along those lines. Any ideas?
