Default Rain sensing wipers and a windshield replacement....

Hey guys, I took a rock to the windshield on the way home from work today, left a solid 1.25” diameter spider with a good chunk of glass out of the center. $35 at the local auto glass shop did a pretty good job of fixing it but it’s not perfect, will still need to be replaced in the future. They quoted me $375 for the glass and $200 to calibrate the camera in the windshield. I explained that I don’t have lane departure but they insisted that I would still have to pay for the calibration. Is anyone familiar with this? Is calibration necessary for just the rain sensing wiper system?

nope, just for the lane departure, all the rain sensing contains is just a sensor on the windshield that sees rain

Thank you, that’s what I thought but they kept telling me I have a camera in there, didn’t think I did. I’ve used this company for decades now and they are great but I feel like I’m getting taken in this.

You simply might be chatting with a front end clerk. Maybe ask him to double check before looking elsewhere. I honestly thought that windshield would be more.

Yeah, I was talking to the receptionist but she asked the guy that was fixing the crack of it needed it and he said yes. Before I have it replaced, probably spring time I’ll run it by them again. I too was surprised by the cost of the glass, I was expecting much more.

I've had 2 windshield replacements, both under CAD 300 including calibration of LKA. Windshields don't last long around here.

Keep in mind, this guy isn't looking up your truck, he just spotted the camera and presumed you need a calibration, because some other installer told him he had a truck with a camera and it needed a calibration.

I went through this last year. Talked to at least 6 different shops and figured out even though I didn't have the lane keep assist, I still had to have the windshield that goes along with it. Added another like $150 for nothing.

Its aftermarket with the equivalent to sound screen. They said they can get a carlite which is what the OEM one is but it costs more and they said they like the clarity of the other brand better, can’t remember the exact name brand. Pilkington maybe?
