Default Radio Reset

I have a 2018 XLT with Sync 3.0. Many times I have to "reset" the unit by holding power + next track because it will not recognize my phone and car-play will not work. The phone starts charging, so it is not a connection issue, and as soon as I do the reset it works great.

Is there a more permanent or longer lasting fix? I have to do this 4-5 times a week.

Sounds like your USB/Carplay module or cable itself is defective. You can also try to see if there is a Sync software update available for your vehicle @ owner.ford.com. BTW, the USB module is rather easy to swap/replace, and can be readily found for $50 USD new. Your vehicle may still be covered under B2B warranty which would also cover the USB module.

New cable. If the hub was bad how would a soft reset of the radio be the immediate solution?

Lost communication from hub to radio, resetting temporarily restores communication. See it all the time with computers and USB devices.

Hi--did you find a fix for this issue? I'm starting to experience the exact same thing. Thanks!

As others have mentioned, a new cable will usually resolve this issue. Charging isn't indicative of a good cable that can transfer data as is needed for CarPlay.
