Radio Install
I am installing a HAM radio in my 2017 F150 and have a question I was hoping the forums could help me with. I will be running a cable from a stake mount antenna to the inside of the 4-door cab. I have found a passthrough behind the rear passenger seat where a rubber plug is in the aluminum. This is behind the cloth, which is behind the seat. On the outside, the rear of the cab between the bed and cab is covered with a rubber like material. I suppose this is for noise dampening? The plug is only through the aluminum and in order to run the cable through the hole where the plug is, i would have to make a small hole in the rubber material. Do you think there would be any issues with this? How would you do it?
I'm sorry I can't help with the specifics of your installation location, as I mounted my antenna up at the hood/fender area. But, my truck does very well, it's low RF noise and I get great signal. You may be able to find information on how the canopy dealers get wires into the cab, as I think they tie into the wires in the door sill area for the brake light.
