Electric parking brake. It must be applied by using the switch on the lower dash left of steering wheel. It can be released either by stepping on the brake and using the switch or just put it in gear and touch the gas. It's clearly explained in the owners manual along with instruction on using the 4x4 feature.

Also a lot depends on where you live at. If you are in the snow belt you will need 4H for driving on the streets when they are snow covered. If they are dry or you see more pavement then snow and slush stay in 2WD. If you are down south and vary really see snow then you will not use it as much. I recommend you find a friend a friend or a 4WD club near you and talk to the folks there. They will be able to show you what is going on and find a few safe trails to take you on to learn.
If you have never used 4WD before and are in the snow belt head to the nearest unplowed parking lot and drive in 2WD and turn hard and see what happens. Then try it in 4WD and see how it handles. Try 4HI first then try 4LO to see the difference.
4LO is for max power and no speed not high way or road driving. 4HI is for a little extra power and more speed used to help get going on snowy and icey roads mud sand places your tires will slip on take off.
Good Luck and have fun
