Default Puddle/Cargo Light Electrical Issue/Random on/off

Hi All -

In the last couple of weeks, my puddle lights started going on and off randomly, when the truck was off and sitting without manipulation. With the vehicle parked and off, they turn on for anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes and continue that cycle. Noticed occasionally the cargo light will do this as well, but not every time.

Searched the forum with no luck, so curious if anyone else has experienced this issue? I'm out of warranty so trying to decide if this is my fix or something I don't want to mess with.

Pop the bed light switch out of the bed and unplug it. You'll see if that's the problem.

That indeed was the problem. Apparently after doing some more research, these switches get water inside of them and short out. Now have to figure out where the water is getting in.

I has to change mine about a year ago. Simple button style micro-switch in a plastic housing. I couldn't see any evidence of water or dirt inside the plastic housing. The new switch, Motorcraft SW-7733, had a better feel to it but only time will tell if it lasts longer.

I rather thought, knowing this is a common corrosion problem, that the switch failure in my case would be covered under warranty. Apparently not...tempted to just buy a spare for the next time. Truck is less than 2 years old.
