Default Protect rear outer-panels from dogs in bed of truck

My spaniels make short trips in the bed of my truck on their way to runs and hikes in the countryside.

They prefer to ride with front-legs up on side rails, right behind the cab, looking into the wind with their ears blowing.

They are tethered in the bed on a system which attaches to the lugs at the front of the bed, right behind the cab. The tether system gives them just enough space to do this without any risk of falling/jumping out.

But... their paws scratch up the surface paint on the outer rear-panels, just below the plastic cap on the sides of the bed rails.

Is there a product that can be used to protect the outside paintwork from such dogs?

Thanks,

ft.

Have a shop put a section of clear bra there...or buy a kit and do it yourself. If that gets scratched up over time....pull it off and put on a new section (You might need what...6" x 24" section on each side?). Cheap, easy, and nearly invisible.

Only thing that comes to mind is the same clear bra plastic vinyl that is used on the fronts of vehicles. Most of the shops that install this stuff can put it anywhere. I know some of sports car guys have the entire car done.

Exactly or if you do leave them in the bed, do NOT tie them down with a leash. That would be the worst thing for them in an accident or rollover.

Look into this on Amazon: ISC Racers Tape HT3314 ISC Helicopter-OG-HD Surface Guard Tape: 3" x 30 ft., Transparent
Used on leading edge of helicopter blades, stand up paddleboard edges, and by NASCAR to protect from damage.

I saw a guy pull up at the Post Office a few years ago where his dog went over the passenger side and had been dragged for a couple of miles. Guy didn't know it.

It was...…….ugly.

We still ride with the kids in the back of the truck around here, on back dirt roads of course. Dogs are definitely not allowed in the cab (or in the house for that matter) on my property.

My point isn't to come across as confrontational or anything, only to point out that not all pets are indoor, city dwelling type, and at least in this area of the country it is very rare to see a dog in the cab.
