I just purchased a 2016 F-150. I normally buy work trucks with the XL trim level. This truck is a XLT FX4. The Ford window sticker says the truck has power tail gate lock. In the manual it shows to activate the lock you push the button 2X on the key fob. The diagram in the manual shows a symbol with a tail gate. My truck also has remote start. My fob has the 2X symbol but not with a tail gate. What is the proper way to cycle the tail gate lock?

Look in your radio settings. If you have auto door locks then your tail gate will also lock.

mine locks and unlocked with the doors.


Start engine drive down the road and let them auto lock. Park open drive door only without cutting engine off and check the tail gate mine is always locked when I do that.

 

2015 and above have auto tailgate lock with doors

 

The tailgate will lovk or unlock with the doors as nentioned above. You need not drive it to do that, just hit the lock or unlock on the door or fob. The fobs with the tailgate button (2×) are those that have the automatic opening tailgate. You hit the button twice and the tailgate drops.
