Default Please help with my build

OK been lurking for years but today I need some help. Have a reg cab 94 F350 that is my dirty work truck. Also have a 08 scab F350 that is my daily driver/tower/hauler. Wife has a 08 f150 limited. I am getting to the age that I enjoy her f150, the ride does not make my kidney’s bleed out! So I have been playing with the build site a bit. Hate that freaking thing! Remember building and ordering my F350, you can have this but not that and on and on! Anyway I need a heavy F150 if I am going to drop out if a superduty. My build is basically lariat, screw, 6.5, 4x4, 3.5, magnetic grey, HDPP and max tow. Stripped out that should give me payload around 2500 and I don’t have anything to tow over 10K. Keeping my superduty for heavy pulls. Went to dealership and licked some windows today. OK so dream truck except.......... I can’t stand chrome and I can’t handle wood trim. Both of my 08’s are color matched and no interior wood. To get rid of that I need the sport package correct? I swear I built on like that last week but today went to place order and sport package deleted HDPP and max tow, booooo. I know I’m the village idiot on the build site but I think that’s how it is. What am I missing? Do I order the truck and then re trim the inside and replace bumpers, mirror caps, door handles etc. that would add up and I’m not made of money. I take meticulous care of my chit and will have the truck for at least a decade so I gotta get it right. Chrome and wood retch. Sorry starting to ramble. Can those that know way more than me give me hope?

Thanks uncleG, I was hoping I was doing something wrong or missing something. Bummer. Gotta buddy with a body shop, I’ll see about getting the chrome off the outside and things painted to match. How about the interior wood though? Can you order the trim pieces from the sport and swap out?? Thanks all for the help!!

I just ordered a 18 HDPP lariat and feel your pain. However, the paint matched bumpers on my 2016 sport do not hold up well to road debris. After every road trip I have at least one or two chips in the bumper.

My last truck had chrome and it is my belief the chrome holds up better to road debris... in 6 years I never had a chip.

For this reason I was happy to go with the HDPP chrome and I picked a color I felt accented well with chrome (Oxford white). You also can’t order a front bench with the sport package, which to me was a no go as I wanted the bench. I’m not a chrome guy. At least the HDPP wheels are not chrome!

According to my research here, a 18 HDPP lariat should have a payload greater than 2400. My options were side steps, tailgate step, tow mirrors... expecting payload of 2450 lb.

What Lou said! I just got my '18 XLT 302a 3 weeks ago and wanted to de-chrome as much as possible. Put sport wheels on,got black running boards, and changed the grille. Also put PTM mirror caps on. The bumpers and handles I WANT them chrome so they dont get chipped up. Chrome on white or the ingot silver blends in nicely.

Pics as from the factory before deliver and after my mods

I have had top of the line trucks my whole life- and now I have a plain ole base XL oxford white super crew FX4 with the rubber flooring and nothing fancy inside and I like this truck more than all of the rest except maybe my '98 qwad cab 2500 cummins. To each his own. I just would not pay for all that chrome and lariat chyt and then replace it all with aftermarket stuff

Thanks for the feedback Lou! I agree on the rock chips, we have some tough road conditions up here in Alaska. I powder coated my one ton bumpers black cause they were all chipped up. The wife limited I pulled and powder coated and then repainted to color for the same reason. I gotta say with the powder coat under the paint it has been holding up really well after the first winter. I’m worried about payload on a lariat also as I’m coming from a almost 3700 pound payload now and use it from time to time. There was one truck to my specs in Jackson Wyoming, my friend at the dealership called and they said payload was 2670. Stripped lariat with little add ons so your payload guess should be close!!

great looking truck photographer!! You give me hope on knocking some of the chrome off. Looked at my painted door handles and tailgate handle today I guess I never noticed how scratched up they really were

anyway thanks to the help I feel like I have a plan to knock out the exterior but man that wood trim. It’s gotta go and literally keeping me from pulling the trigger. Looks like you can’t change the piece out and you would have to replace the whole door panel. Not way outa my price. Maybe someone who knows better can tell me if I can get the wood trim pieces out. If so I can paint, wrap, dip or something. I’ll try the search and see if I can make a plan thanks all!
